Vermont CLE Requirements
-
The State Bar of Vermont requires attorneys to complete 24 Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit hours every 2 years. The 24 VT MCLE hours must include
2 hours of Ethics
1 hour of Attorney Wellness
1 hour of Diversity & Inclusion
A minimum of 12 hours must be earned via moderated programming or programming with Interactivity as a key component.
-
The Vermont State Bar groups attorneys into 1 of 2 compliance groups depending on their year of admittance to the state bar. The MCLE deadlines for these groups is June 30th, 2 years after their compliance year.
-
Vermont attorneys may not carry over excess CLE credits into the next two-year reporting period. The state requires 24 credit hours every two years (ending June 30), and any credits earned beyond this total in one cycle are lost rather than applied to the next.
-
Vermont attorneys must report 24 hours of continuing legal education (CLE) credits every two years to the Vermont Board of Attorney Licensing by July 1, with a compliance deadline of June 30. Credits are tracked and submitted by the attorney, often using tools like the Vermont Bar Association's tracking feature to manage live or digital, accredited courses.
