Pennsylvania CLE Requirements
-
The State Bar of Pennsylvania requires attorneys to complete 12 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours every year, including:
2 hours in ethics, professionalism, or substance abuse prevention
At least 6 hours of live PA CLE (the other 6 hours may be earned with on-demand programs)
-
Pennsylvania's State Bar permanently assigns attorneys into 1 of 3 compliance groups, which are chosen randomly by their lawyer ID number. The yearly compliance deadlines for these groups are:
Group 1: Compliance Deadline: April 30th Each Year
Group 2: Compliance Deadline: August 31st Each Year
Group 3: Compliance Deadline: December 31st Each Year
-
Pennsylvania attorneys may roll over excess credits—up to double the yearly requirement—into the next two reporting periods.
Note: Only credits earned through live-online or in-person/classroom courses may be carried forward (up to two compliance periods).
-
Pennsylvania attorneys can verify their credits online via the PA CLE Board website and may self-report credits using course IDs from completion certificates.
