Oregon CLE Requirements

  • Oregon requires attorneys to complete 45 CLE credit hours every 3 years. The 45 OR CLE hours must include:

    • 5 in Ethics

    • 1 in Child and Elder Abuse Reporting

    • 1 in Substance Abuse & Mental Health

    • 3 in Access to Justice every other reporting period

Although Writing for Lawyers does not offer CLE credit in Oregon at this time, you may self-apply for CLE credit by logging into the Oregon State Bar website and completing the CLE Activity Accreditation Application.

  • Oregon attorneys must complete their CLE requirement by April 30th.

  • Oregon attorneys may carry over up to 15 excess Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credits to the next reporting period. These carryover credits may include specialized credits, such as two ethics credits, to help satisfy the 45-credit requirement due every three years.

  • Oregon attorneys must report their Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credits by May 31 following the end of their three-year reporting period by filing a Compliance Report online via their Oregon State Bar dashboard.

Attorneys are responsible for self-reporting by entering course IDs for completed credits.
