Montana CLE Requirements
-
Montana CLE annual deadline is March 31st.
A 6-week grace period allows attorneys to earn and report their CLE. Fees will be assessed if CLE credits are not earned and reported by May 15th of each year.
-
All Montana attorneys are required to obtain 15 credits of continuing legal education (CLE) per year, including 2 credits of Ethics or Professional Fitness and Integrity.
Of those 15 credits, at least 10 credits must be live (webcast, or in-person) and up to 5 credits may be taken online with on-demand programs (including the 2 required ethics credits).
-
Montana attorneys can carry over up to 30 "interactive" (live) CLE credits into the next two reporting periods. Self-study credits and ethics credits generally cannot be carried over. Ethics credits should to be earned within a 3-year cycle and used within that cycle. Attorneys must first meet the annual 15-credit requirement (including 2 ethics) before any carryover applies.
-
Attorneys can report their CLE credits at any time during the reporting year through their Member Dashboard here.
The annual deadline is May 15th.
